cherrystudio app - Cherry Studio Privacy Toggle Fails, Sends Device Data Despite User Settings

Cherry Studio, a popular open-source AI client, has been found to send device information despite users disabling the privacy toggle. GitHub user Yuerchu highlighted the issue, showing that even with the "Send anonymous error reports and usage statistics" option turned off, the client continued to send data to analytics.cherry-ai.com. This includes a unique device ID, system information, CPU architecture, and application version. The problem arose after a code change by maintainer kangfenmao on March 22, which bypassed the toggle for application launches and update checks. Although chat content and sensitive data are not affected, the issue has persisted across several versions. A fix has been implemented to unify the toggle's functionality across all events. Additionally, an older issue was discovered where an upgrade script re-enabled the toggle for users upgrading from versions prior to February 2025, requiring manual re-disabling.
